The move to implement corrections under the leadership of the Politburo after the three-day extended state committee meeting in Kozhikode is being viewed as a setback to the authority of the state leadership. The extended state committee meeting witnessed unusual measures, including the reprimand of party secretary M.V. Govindan. The party assessed that the candidature of P.K. Shyamala in the Taliparamba constituency had been a mistake, leading to the action against Govindan.P.K. Criticism had also emerged over why Joy, who contested the Assembly election, was subsequently allowed to continue as district secretary. M.B. Rajesh is also set to become stronger within the Palakkad CPI(M) through his membership in the secretariat. After P.K. Susan Kodi from Kollam, who had been kept aside over factionalism, is returning to the state committee. Nine people have been invited as members of the state committee. Those included as invitees are Subaida Ishaq, former Palakkad district panchayat president and the person who contested the 2016 Assembly election from Thrithala; Attingal MLA O.S. Ambika; N. Sukanya, former Kannur municipality councillor; DYFI leader Jaick C. Thomas; DYFI state secretary M. Vijin; SFI state secretary P.S. Sanjeev; SFI state president P.S. Sanjeev; Prabha Varma; and SFI national president Adarsh M. Saji. Among them, O.S. Ambika had been expected to enter the state committee at the previous conference.
